OUR HISTORY
Anglin Funeral Home History

Herman (1927 - 2022) and Margie Link Anglin (1928-2007)
Anglin Funeral Home: Past & Present
In 1951, Herman Anglin began his funeral service career and at his retirement in 2011, he proudly celebrated 60 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Stewart County. Until his passing, Herman remained a guiding influence and cherished part of Anglin Funeral Home.
Following in his footsteps, Herman’s sons, Wayne and the late Mark Anglin, continued the family’s legacy of compassionate care. Today, the tradition lives on through his grandchildren, Amanda and Landon, who are actively involved in the daily operations of the funeral home.
Our Story: The Founding
Our story begins with the original owners of what is now Anglin Funeral Home. In 1936, G.C. Milligan and John T. Ridgeway established Milligan and Ridgeway Funeral Home, faithfully serving the community together until 1960. Following the end of their partnership, the business continued under the name Milligan Funeral Home.
In 1970, after 34 years of service, Mr. Milligan retired and sold the funeral home to longtime employee Herman Anglin and his wife, Margie Link Anglin. Herman had served the firm for 19 years before taking ownership. In 1973, the name was officially changed to Anglin Funeral Home, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its enduring legacy of care and commitment.

Dr. Smith's home, built in 1863
From Civil War to the Present
Anglin Funeral Home is nestled near the banks of the Cumberland River in the heart of Dover, Tennessee, a small town steeped in rich history. Dover is home to the Civil War battlefields of Fort Donelson, the site of a pivotal battle in February 1862, and the Battle of Dover, which followed in February 1863. Stewart County also boasts natural and historical treasures such as Land Between the Lakes, Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge, and part of Fort Campbell—home to the renowned 101st Airborne Division. While rural in nature, Stewart County holds a significant place in both Tennessee and national history.
The building that houses Anglin Funeral Home is part of that legacy. Constructed in 1863 by Dr. James Smith, a physician who served both Confederate and Union soldiers, the historic home has stood for over a century and a half. Today, it remains a lasting symbol of the area's heritage and the compassionate care our funeral home has offered for generations.
