Willson Tyrus Riggins passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, July 24, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 26 at Anglin Funeral Home in Dover. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 1pm until the hour of service on Sunday.
Willson was born May 21, 1930 at the family home place in what is now the Land Between the Lakes. His parents, Frazier and Nell Willson Riggins preceded him in death as did his daughter, Cynthia Riggins Rakes and sister, Anne Riggins Gillig.
He was a graduate of Battle Ground Academy and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Willson was the 4th generation to farm the family’s land on Bear Creek near Dover. For many years he was a livestock buyer for Swift and Company and Neuhoff Packing Company. For 19 years he was the manager of the Tourist Information Center at Exit 4. Willson was a Methodist and a Democrat.
Survivors include his daughter Julia Riggins Dauw (Albert), two grandchildren, Becki Bonner Sessions (Cary) and David Bonner (Kristin), five great grandchildren, one brother, Don Riggins, and two sisters, Helen Riggins Allen (Les) and Beverly Riggins Parker (Douglas).
Pallbearers will be Lester Riggins, Albert Dauw, David Bonner, Cary Sessions, Frazier Allen, William Parker and John Parker.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tyler Riggins, Vinson Cobb, Bill Cobb, B.C. Trinkle and Boozer Hunter
