Virginia Joiner

Apr 28, 1932 — Sep 16, 2026

Big Rock

Mrs. Virginia Joiner, age 94, of Big Rock, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN, with her loving family by her side. Born on April 28, 1932, the beloved daughter of W.C. and Mamie Carlisle Hillyard.

Growing up in Missouri, she learned the value of hard work while working alongside her family in the cotton fields. That strong work ethic remained a part of her throughout her life. Virginia owned a restaurant in Erin, a grocery store in Carlisle, and later worked as a sales clerk at Mattox Jewelers in Erin. She loved her customers, whether assisting them with a purchase or simply sharing a smile and kind word. Connecting with others brought great joy to her heart.

Virginia was truly a classy lady, elegant, graceful, and always beautifully put together. She loved her makeup, coordinating her outfits, and adding just the right piece of jewelry to complete her look. But beneath her polished appearance was an even more beautiful spirit. She was humble, kind, and gracious to everyone she met, always treating others with warmth and respect. Her gentle heart, timeless style, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Above all, Virginia loved her family. She especially enjoyed having them come home for family gatherings and sharing a meal around the table. Sharing her love and creating cherished memories with her family was one of her greatest joys in life. She will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love will live on in their hearts and through the memories they made together.

Virginia loved the Lord and attended Big Rock Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas ‘Buck’ Joiner; sisters, Christine L Hillyard, Estelle White, Carolyn Robinson, and son-in-law, Wayne Parchman.

She is survived by her loving family, daughters, Kathy Parchman, Pamela Holman (Rick), Debra Pope (Mike); step-sons, Rick Joiner (Marcia), Joey Joiner (Leta), and Bobby Joiner (Sabrina) grandchildren, Evan Parchman, Chris Conger (Delana), Shaydra Vishe, Ellen Holman, Carolyn Padgett (Daniel) and Collin Joiner (Danielle); great grandchildren, Avery Conger Bryce Conger, Brooke Pritchard and Barrett Padgett; and sister, Marlin Durham.
