Thomas Martin

Thomas Rochester Martin, 102, went home to be with the LORD on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from his home in Dover, TN. He was born on January 22, 1909 in Stewart County, Tennessee to the late Thomas James Martin and Carrie Tharpe Weaks Martin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Tubbs Martin and his six brothers, Carl, Weaks, Joe, Fred, Harold, and Frank Martin. The funeral service will be held for Dover's oldest citizen at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the First Christian Church of Dover with The Reverend Adam Janes officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, January 9, 2012 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Anglin Funeral Home, Dover, and Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 9:00 am until the time of the service at First Christian Church on Church Street, Dover. Tom was retired from Hawkins Equipment Company in Memphis, TN, and from an active life of community service. He was the founding Treasurer of the Stewart County Historical Society and a long-time Sunday School Teacher and Elder at First Christian Church of Dover. A beloved uncle, he is survived by his nieces, Betty Jo Herr, Mabel Fowler, Carrie Sue Edmunds, Mary Frank Williams, Ann Clark, Betsy Tumelson, Martha Pile, and Rachel Brown, numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be members of his family. Honorary pallbearers will be elders of the First Christian Church. The family requests any memorial gifts be given to the Stewart County Historical Society or the First Christian Church of Dover.
