Mrs. Ruth Durham, age 92, of Indian Mound, Tennessee, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on November 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born in Stewart County, Tennessee, the daughter of Sam Dewey and Ruby Halliday Turner. She was a lifelong resident of the community and was known for her deep faith, kindness, and love of family.
Ruth attended Dunbar Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, where she worshipped and served faithfully as long as her health allowed. Her love for bluegrass music was a big part of her life, and she enjoyed singing with her sisters as part of the Turner Sisters Group. Ruth had a heart for family and spent countless hours sewing, cooking, and sharing her love for all things chocolate.
Her family meant everything to her, and she was especially close to Lisa Perrigo, who she thought of as a daughter and brought her great joy. Ruth's warm spirit and caring nature will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin Austin Durham; her siblings, Earlene Durham, Mack Turner, Delma Turner, Eugene Turner, and Harold Dean Turner.
She is survived by her loving sister, Frances Webb (Sonny), her chosen daughter, Lisa Perigo, several nieces, nephews, and many extended family members who were blessed to know her and cherish her memory.
A visitation and funeral service will be held at Dunbar Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Indian Mound, TN. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024 with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM, officiated by Bro. Mitchell Allen. Burial will take place at Dunbar Chapel Cemetery, with Rick Turner, Jerry Durham, Danny Webb, Albert Hargis, Dwayne Perrigo, and Butch Walla serving as pallbearers.
