Norman Landis

Norman Edward “Norm” Landis, age 91 of Dover, TN was called home to be with the Lord August 1, 2021. He was born March 12, 1930 the son of the late Theodore Norman and Ernestine Jones Landis. He was a faithful servant and served the Lord as a member and song leader at Rose Valley United Methodist Church, 770 Bellwood Hollow Rd, Indian Mound, TN 37079.

He is preceded in death by his sisters; Anita Jenson, Joyce Butler and June Valvo.

He is survived by his loving, devoted and supporting wife Edna Killebrew Landis, daughters; Janet (Johnny) Rudolph, Clarksville, TN, Karen Brown, Huntersville, NC, and Norma (Frank) Parker, Knoxville, TN, sister; Alberta Gilhom, St. Petersburg, FL, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Rose Valley United Methodist Church. A full military tribute with honors will be given at 11:00 a.m. with funeral service immediately following at Rose Valley United Methodist Church. Bro. Ryne Lee and Bro. Paul Edwards will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Indian Mound, TN.
Norm was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and loyal friend to many. He met the love of his life on July 4th and shortly after they married on December 2, 1949. Happily married for 71 years, he described Edna as his biggest supporter especially while he was in the military. Norm often described his military journey and career as a Rakkasan as “an adventure” of a lifetime. He joined the Army in July 30, 1947 when he was only 17 years old. He stated, Dad signed for me, mom wouldn’t. He served his country at many military bases state side and abroad; i.e., Germany, Korea, Southeast Asia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan and Vietnam. Norm’s last assignment was at Fort Campbell where he retried on August 1, 1967. Retired Maj. Norman Landis would often say, his favorite part of being in the Army was serving the United States of America. He stated, “I represented the United States of America everywhere I was assigned. I love my country. From Private to Major in 20 years was a big accomplishment. I owned my own home, have three beautiful daughters I dearly love, precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren and above all a loving wife. We loved all of the adventures in life we shared together. There is no way I could ever thank them enough for our travels together, I’m so proud of my service”.
After retirement they moved to their cabin in Dover, TN on Lake Barkley/Cumberland River. He and his wife have lived in Dover for 47 years. They shared many precious memories with their family and dear friends. He enjoyed golfing and spent many hours on the lake fishing and boating. His favorite pastime was walking his beloved dog, Corky.
