It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Evelyn Youngblood Hargis, 95, of Ocala, Florida, announces her passing on August 1, at Cate's Hospice House, Ocala. She was born April 12, 1930 in Waldo, Florida, daughter of the late Elijah and Alta Youngblood.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, Delvin Hargis, and her husband of 41 years, Odell Hargis, whom she lived with on the Century Old Hargis Farm in Bumpus Mills, TN, until his death.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Melinda Hargis, Ocala, Florida, granddaughter, Jolyn Farber (Drew Smith), Weston, Connecticut, grandson, Justin Pope (Bri) Richmond, Texas, granddaughter, Megan Parks (Charles), Dover, Tennessee, and her great grandchildren, Mikayla, Hargis, Myles, Reagan, Oaklyn, and Malin. She also leaves behind four sisters, one brother and many other family members and friends who will greatly miss her.
Evelyn loved flowers and had quite the "green thumb." She was an excellent Southern cook, loved her pup, Molly, and took immense pride in her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, word finds, and visiting the beach. Evelyn was a past owner of Kountry Kasuals, as well as an accomplished author, with the book, "Butterflies to Glory", published about her life.
Graveside services will be held at Green Hill Cemetery, Bumpus Mills, TN, on August 16 at 2:00pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Pope, Myles Pope, Drew Smith, Charles Parks, Jr., Hargis Cherry, and Steve Ross.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Odell M. Hargis Scholarship at Austin Peay State University or to the Delvin O. Hargis Memorial Scholarship at Stewart County High School c/o Megan Parks.
