Johnnie Phillips Balkcom Sr.

Mr. Johnnie Phillips Balkcom, Sr., age 82, of Dover, TN passed away peacefully at his home on May 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 26, 1943, in Live Oak, FL the beloved son of Murphy Phillips Balkcom and Zelma Davidson Balkcom.

Mr. Johnnie loved the Lord and was of the Protestant faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired with over 20 years of dedicated service. He deeply loved his family and treasured the times when they gathered together to reflect on cherished memories while creating new ones for future generations to hold dear.

Mr. Johnnie also had a lifelong passion for horses and took great pride in raising exceptional animals. His dedication and hard work led to his well-known business, AQHA House Breeders. He was a longtime member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Susie Johns and brother-in-law, Clifton Johns; son-in-law, Tony Cheshire and grandchildren, JamieLea Ann Cheshire and Phillip Balkcom.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Elaine McAlpin Balkcom; children, Wanda Keator (David) of Dover, TN, Karen Lane of Dover, TN, Johnnie Phillips Balkcom, Jr. (Liz) of GA, Sabina Cheshire of Dover, TN, and Kimmie Clint Balkcom (Kassi) of Goodlettsville, TN; sister, Nelma Pendley of FL; brothers, Harrel, Jerald, Larkin, Larry, Dale and David Balkcom all of FL; many grandchildren; great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Anglin Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 beginning at 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. A private burial be held by the family. Serving as pallbearers are Kimmie Balkcom, Phillip Balkcom, David Keator, James Crosby, Stacy Jefcoat, and David Keator, Jr.
