Irene Nolen Cook, 97, passed away Monday evening, July 1, 2024 at her residence, in the embrace of her family.
She was born in the Spout Spring Community of Stewart County on 3/31/1927, along with her twin sister, Olene, to Lewis and Clatie Hutchinson Nolen. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and all siblings, Olene Vanzant, John and Raymond Nolen, Edith Wallace, Faye Anderson and Shirley Lemons, as well as grandson, Wendell Welker and granddaughter Amy Welker.
She was married to Jack Cook for 65 years and they resided on the family farm near Carlisle. They had eight children: Peggy Pulley and Teresa Cook of Clarksville; Freda (Charles) Kent of Signal Mountain; Linda Welker, Robert (Sue) Cook, Jackie (Mitchell) Welker, Roger (Cindy) Cook and Nellie (David) Anderson of Dover. She was matriarch to five generations, having twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was a woman of faith, generosity, loved the company of children, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was full of warmth, kindness and so much love. She valued her family, reading and maintaining long-time friendships.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, July 4th, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and resume on Friday, July 5th at 11:00 am and continue until time of service at 1:00 pm at Anglin Funeral Home. Interment will be at Moore Cemetery, Bear Spring. Family members will serve as pallbearers
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dover. Reverends George Miller and Steven Head will conduct her service.
