CSM (Ret.) Harold Gene Mason, age 95, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on November 9, 2024. Born on August 25, 1929, Harold was a devoted father, grandfather, Soldier, and friend who brought warmth, strength, and humor to all who knew him.
A dedicated Soldier, Harold proudly served in the United States Army for 27 years. He fought bravely in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, where he was injured in service and later honored as a decorated Purple Heart recipient. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and he retired with honor from Fort Benning, Georgia, as a Command Sergeant Major. He was a Maser Mason with over 50 years membership in the Grand Lodge of Tennessee.
Harold was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Mary E. Holtz, with whom he shared three children; his beloved second wife, Sandra Coursey, with whom he shared one child; his brothers, Joy Mason, Ed Mason, and Loyd Mason; and his granddaughter, Kimberly Lynch.
He is survived by his loving children: Zane Mason (Cindi), Darrell Mason (Ruth), Valerie Richards, Heather Mason; and by his cherished grandchildren: Andrew Mason, Danielle Mason, Shelley Ray (Lake), Rocky Steele (John), Kelli Kelly (Dylan), Michael Mason (Amanda), Mason Nowlin; and eight great grandchildren.
Harold had a special fondness for Louie, a loyal dog who brought him joy and companionship during visits. He enjoyed fishing and could always be counted on to share a cold drink with friends and family. Known for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand, Harold was a true family man who loved unconditionally and brought light to those around him.
His legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will live on through all whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Ft. Donelson National Cemetery in Dover, TN. The family will receive friends at the graveside beginning at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Mr. Harold Mason be made to the veterans organization of your choice.
