Glenda N. Bishop Mattox, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died on Friday, January 2, 2026. She loved God and her entire life was a living testimony of faith and trust. Anyone who knew this precious lady, knew God through her. She reared her children in faith and they all rise up and call her blessed. She fought a good fight and kept the faith. Blessed is she among women.
She was born on July 28, 1939, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Homer T. Bishop and Essie Anna Farrington Bishop. Glenda was a devoted member of New Hope Church of God. She had a deep love for flowers and worked creatively as a floral designer. As a gifted artist, she found great joy in painting the beauty of God's creation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Clifford Theodore "C.T." Mattox; her son, Clifford T. Mattox, Jr.; her granddaughter, Cassie Bell; and her brothers, Travis Bishop and Russell Bishop.
She is survived by her cherished children, Joseph W. Mattox (Diane), John Anderson Mattox, Glenda G. Mattox, Joanie Mattox Evans (Lyle), and Donna Mattox Bell (Randy); her grandchildren Sean McKinney (Bethany), Briana Maxwell (Shawn), Christopher McKinney (Erin), Joseph Bell, Eli Bell, Natasha Hutchison, and Jackie Hutchison; and her great-grandchildren Skylar Maxwell, Greyson Maxwell, Weston Maxwell, Cheyann, Odin, Kane, Kamden, Kolson, and Kayley. She is also survived by her brothers Norris Bishop (Gloria) and Thomas Bishop, along with many dear friends including Marie Mathis, Wayne Eagle, Virgil and Ethel Wallace and "The Paint Ladies."
Visitation for Mrs. Mattox will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Hope Church of God. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Church of God, with her cherished friend Bro. Brad Epperson and Bro. Jay Bragdon officiating. A private, family only burial will be held.
Pallbearers will be Sean McKinney, Christopher McKinney, Joseph Bell, Eli Bell, Joe Mattox, and John Anderson Mattox.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Mattox's caregivers, Phyllis and Melissa, hospice nurse Heather, the Suncrest Hospice team, her New Hope Church of God family, the Lighthouse Group, Tom McKinney, and Robert Reed for their loving care and support.
