Garrett John Helmic, 20, Dover, died Monday, February 1, 2010 , at Stewart Co., TN. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at Anglin Funeral Home with Rev. Don Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Stewart Co. Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday and from 12-1:00 pm Saturday at Anglin Funeral Home.
Anglin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born May 14, 1989 in Massachusetts son of John Helmic and Amanda Forrer Brewster. Garrett was a 2007 graduate of Stewart Co. High School and was attending Murray State University while working at GDH Racing Shop and attended Ft. Donelson United Methodist Church. He enjoyed racing ATVA and Midsouth cross country racing. His current status was running 2nd place points overall, one win, four 2nds, moving to Pro-AM status next season. His passed results included 2nd in points regional B-Class, 2nd in points regional C-Class, 3rd in national youth production class, two GNCC stock class wins, thirteen MX wins/ five national wins and thirty-six 2nd places national/regional. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Walter Helmic. In addition to his parents both of Dover, he is survived by his step father, Dan Brewster, Dover; brother, Hayden Helmic, Dover; girlfriend, Christine Bevel, Dover; step brother, Danny Brewster, Indian Mound; step sister, Danielle Brewster, Indian Mound; maternal grandparents, Don and Barbara Forrer, Anderson, IN; paternal grandparents, Marge and Dick Carnes, Naples, FL; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers will be John Helmic, Dan Brewster, Levi Compton, Josh Noble, Chris Helpling, Kent Helpling, Ric McMahan, George Cook. Family requests that memorials be made to the Garrett Helmic Young ATV Riders Fund c/o F&M Bank in Dover, TN, to help fund young and up and coming riders to participate in ATV racing events.
