Estelle A. Horn

Estelle Atkins Horn, born August 1, 1926, in Stewart County, Tennessee, passed peacefully from this earth on August 4, 2026, at the age of 100. Her long life was marked by devotion, kindness, and a joyful steadiness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Estelle was the beloved daughter of Chester and Elva Atkins, and she is now reunited with them, as well as with her husband of 63 years, John (J.W.) Horn, whom she cherished deeply. Their marriage was a testament to partnership, faith, and enduring love.

She leaves behind a family who adored her: her sons Don and Joe, her daughter‑in‑law Julia, and her treasured grandchildren Lynsey and Michael, each of whom carries forward her warmth, humor, and wisdom. Estelle also leaves behind twelve nieces and nephews and countless friends who were a joyful and meaningful part of her life-each one held a special place in her heart.

After beginning her life in the quiet hills of Stewart County, Estelle spent the last 62 years in Memphis, Tennessee, where she built a home filled with laughter, hospitality, and unwavering faith. She was a proud and faithful member of Barton Southern Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she found community, purpose, and friendship.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Kirby Pines Assisted Living and Job's Way for the love, compassion, and attentive care given to Estelle during her time in residence. Their kindness brought comfort and dignity to her final years.

Estelle was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a steadfast friend to animals and people, and a believer in education for all. Her smile brightened every room, her laughter lifted spirits, and her wisdom-always offered with humility-was a gift to many. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to shine through the lives she touched.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery, Indian Mound, TN. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
