Elsie Whitehead

Ms. Elsie Whitehead, age 84 of Big Rock, TN was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Henry County Medical Center, Paris, TN. She was born in Stewart County on September 11, 1938 the beloved daughter of the late Arnold and Irene Odom Mitzel. Ms. Elsie was a caring and devoted homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed cooking for her children and grandchildren. She loved having everyone come home to share time together and make lasting memories. She was saved at a young age and had a strong faith in the Lord. In her later years, she attended Big Rock Baptist Church, Big Rock, TN.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband; Donald Chester Whitehead; son, Daniel Wade Whitehead; brothers, Lewis, John, Oscar and Joe Mitzel; sisters, June Clark, Francis Black and Annie Adair; grandson, Jacob Whitehead and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Whitehead.

She leaves behind her loving family; sons, David Whitehead (Shari) of Big Rock, TN; Donald Whitehead of Granite City, IL; brothers; James C. Mitzel of Paris, TN; daughter-in-law, Diana (Dee) Whitehead of Granite City, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Toombs (Billy), Chrystal Crase (Matt), Matthew Whitehead (Jaclyn), Justin Whitehead (Ashley) and Josh Whitehead and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Anglin Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm with Bro. William Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Lane Cemetery, Dover, TN. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday and continue until the hour of the funeral service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt Thank you to the staff at Dover Care Center Nursing Home for the loving care and devotion given to their mother during her stay there.
