Dr. Robert Henry Lee of Ooltewah, TN. passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024 at the age of 88. Dr. Lee was born in Franklin, North Carolina on January 13th, 1936 to the late Dr. Albert Ray and Nona Lee. He graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1957 with a double major in chemistry and biology. He then graduated from The University of Missouri School of Medicine in 1965 and finished an internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. Dr. Lee served in the Mississippi and Tennessee National Guard and was honorably discharged from The U.S. Army Reserves in 1962.
He began his medical practice in Dover, June of 1966. Dr. Lee practiced medicine in Stewart County for 54 years before retiring on September 4th, 2020 at the age of 84. Dr. Lee’s dedication to medicine and the people of Stewart County are seen in the many roles he held such as Stewart County Medical Examiner, Medical Director of Stewart County, Medical Director of Manor House of Dover and Stewart County Board of Health. Dr. Lee was honored by receiving Rural Health Practitioner of the year for the state of Tennessee in 2017. Dr. Lee was particularly proud of the fact that the road leading to his clinic was renamed the Dr. Robert H Lee Rd. along with a bridge on Hwy 79 over Dyers Creek renamed in his honor, The Dr. Robert Henry Lee bridge.
Along with his parents Dr. Lee was preceded in death by his brother Dr. Ray Lee.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years Gail; his children Cindy Joiner (Bob), Michael Lee (Martha), Dr. Alexis Lee (Paul Morris), Justin Lee, Hillary Greene (James); his grandchildren Ashley Shamban, Heather Sedoris, Lauren Warren, Sara Lee, Bethany Lee, AnnMarie Lee, Zoe Trampke-Lee, Bailey Greene, Lathan Greene, Grayson Greene and his seven great-grandchildren.
Though he moved to Chattanooga to be closer to family, Dr. Lee’s heart never left Stewart County and he dedicated his life to the health and well-being of the people that called it home.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 19th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Anglin Funeral Home and will resume at Dyers Creek Church of God on Thursday, June 20th from 11 until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Brother Jeff Wallace will be officiating and burial will be immediately after at Stewart County Memorial Gardens. Those serving as pallbearers are Michael Lee, James Greene, Paul Morris, Jacob Warren, David Shamban, Jonathan Harper and Bob Joiner (Honorary).
