Douglas Barnet Parker passed into his Heavenly home on October 10, 2024 surrounded by his family and friends. Doug entered this world on January 2, 1939 in the hamlet of Parker Town, which is now part of Ft Campbell. His parents were William Herbert Parker and Gustie Walker Parker. He spent many hours over his lifetime exploring the “Camp Area” on foot, quail hunting or riding bikes with special friend, Judge Bill Cobb. Doug’s family left Parker Town in 1942 to live in Big Rock, not far from Parker Town. He enjoyed a life surrounded by loving family and neighbors. He loved fast cars and motorcycles! His mother said she spent years on her knees praying for Doug’s safety. He was an incredible bird (quail) hunter and always owned the best bird dogs possible. It troubled him when Ft. Campbell took down all the fences, because the quail were no longer around.
Doug had a superior work ethic that resulted in his working his way through APSU at Third Street Shoe Store, an extension of that store on Ft. Campbell Blvd, the Bird Cage at Ft. Campbell, and at Richview Restaurant. With encouragement from friend Cleveland Turner, he moved to Nashville to attend The Nashville School of Law, and after graduating, he and Cleveland started Parker and Turner. Years later he established Parker and Pugh. He welcomed daughter Elizabeth and son John into the firm and watched it grow into a practice he was so proud of.
He was a 50 year member of First Baptist Clarksville and a proud member of Wade Bourne’s Sunday School Class led by incredible Sunday School teachers Wade and Hampton Bourne and Allison Clauser. He loved the special attention the other members gave him.
Doug was an Army veteran proudly having served his country, a member of Montgomery County Bar Association and Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a one time member of AUSA and Ducks Unlimited.
Doug loved his life and surrounded himself with the best people.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lurton Parker and two nephews, Lewis and Kevin Parker.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Beverly Riggins Parker; son William Parker (Tina), daughter Elizabeth Parker Pugh (Michael) and son John Douglas Parker (Margaret); grandchildren, Beverly Anne Pugh Hamlin (Billy), Virginia Douglas Pugh, Lillie Elizabeth Pugh, William Michael Parker, John Henry Parker, Boone Douglas Parker, Lincoln Allen Parker, and Zachary Lunsford; sister Martha Elizabeth Parker; Nephews Ricky and Michael Parker; cousins, Joyce Holt and Jane Killebrew; sister-in-law Helen Allen (Les).
