Don Riggins

October 15, 1935 — March 23, 2016

Donald Lester Riggins passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St Thomas Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 26 at Anglin Funeral Home in Dover, TN with Pastor Charles Cate officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service with the burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Don was born October 15, 1935 at the family home place in what is now the Land Between the Lakes. His parents, Frazier and Nell Willson Riggins preceded him in death as did his sister, Anne Riggins Gillig and his brother Willson Riggins.
He was a graduate of Stewart County High School where he played football. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Don was the 4th generation to farm the family’s land on Bear Creek near Dover. He and his family later moved to Henry County Tennessee where he continued farming. Later in his life he joined the Henry County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. After his retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard and growing the best tomatoes in Paris. He also spent countless hours exploring the Land Between the Lakes with his two adoring sisters. His dog, Kate, brought him much pleasure.
Don was a faithful member of the New Bethel Church of Christ where he established lifetime relationships with the congregation and enjoyed coffee each morning at Hardee’s with his church friends.
He is survived by his son, Lester Crain Riggins and his wife Sherron, and his daughter, Teresa (Teri) Edwards and her husband Robert (Rookie) Edwards; grandchildren, Lester Williams (Will) Riggins, Lauren Ashley Riggins, James Tyler Riggins and Allison Jo Edwards and two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Beverly Riggins Parker and her husband Douglas Parker and Helen Riggins Allen and her husband Leslie Allen
Pallbearers will be Will Riggins, Ty Riggins, Allison Edwards, Ashley Riggins, William Parker, John Parker, Frazier Allen and Sean O’Connor. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Tyler Riggins, Lynn Lancaster, David Riggins, Ricky Rowlett, Jerald Sykes, Reggie Hill and Don’s coffee buddies.
Memorial gifts may be made to the New Bethel Church of Christ, 3630 Hwy 69 S, Paris, TN 38242.
