Delmer Hayes, born December 31, 1943, passed away peacefully on August 21st, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family.

Delmer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, farmer, and friend. To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as "Peep".He was married to his beloved wife, Nelda Grasty Hayes, on July 9, 1966. They shared 60 years of marriage and built a life centered around family, hard work, faith, and service to others.

Delmer spent 34 years working at Trane, while also dedicating 51 years to raising tobacco and farming. He was known for his generosity and often gave away portions of his crops and the things he worked so hard to produce. He never hesitated to help others and found joy in giving.

Delmer was also an avid marathon runner, a passion that reflected his determination and perseverance. His faith was an important part of his life. He attended Indian Mound Methodist Church for 52 years and later attended Hopewell Community Church for five years.

Above all, Delmer treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Nelda Hayes; his children, Rayann (Tim) Mounts, Regina (Johnny) Keatts, Kelly (Brian) Bramlett, and Keith (Brandy) Hayes; his grandchildren, Brittany (Jarred) Frazier, Joshua (Mckenzie) Rose, Christy Steele and Shelby, Dustin Keatts (Mickey Head), Zach Hayes, Cole (Carrie) Keatts, Brandt Bramlett (Holli Shepherd), Jacob (Kyanne ) Rose , Tyler Keatts, Lexi (Jackson) Gerken, Kaitlyn Bramlett, Karlee Bramlett, and Laci Hayes (Nathan Toombs) and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Wyatt, Dorothy Rorie, Peggy Hollingsworth, and Kathy McClean, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly.

"Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Hayes and Ida Porter Hayes; his siblings, Evelyn Hayes, Elmer Hayes, his beloved twin brother, Bobby Hayes, Billy Hayes, and Betty Page; and his nephew, Eddie Hayes." 

Delmer will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, love of farming, dedication to his family, and unwavering faith. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and countless memories that will be cherished by his family, and all who knew him.

"A life well lived, a heart well loved, and a legacy that will live on through generations."

Funeral services for Delmer will be held at Anglin Funeral Home on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m, with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at The Delmer Hayes Cemetery. Pastor William Gray and Mitchell Allen will be officiating as we gather together to honor Delmer's life and hold close the many cherished memories he leaves in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. 

Delmer's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers, honoring their beloved "Peep" and carrying him to his final resting place.
