Christopher Paul Porter, age 38, of Dover, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Tennova Healthcare of Clarksville, TN. He was born June 4, 1981 in Erin, TN, son of the late Paul Dean Porter and Barbara Tolley Baggett.
A lifelong resident of Stewart County, he began his law enforcement career in 2000 with the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office working in the jail, dispatch, and patrol. In 2005 he joined the Dover Police Department and while there, served as a Patrol Officer, Firearms Instructor, and in 2011 was promoted to Lieutenant and served in that capacity until 2015 when he left due to a heart condition. In February of 2019 he was fortunate to be able return to work for the Dover Police Department. During his law enforcement career, Chris has attended many training courses to include Instructor Development, Firearms Instructor School, First Line Supervisor, and Law Enforcement Management and Administration. He is also a member of the Chestnut Grove Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his father, Paul, as well as his grandparents Lacy and Beauford Porter, and grandfather, Joe Boren. Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Samantha McLean Porter, mother, Barbara and stepfather, Kenny Baggett, Dover, TN, stepmother, Karen Porter, Dover, TN, daughters, Cassandra and Brianna Porter, Dover, TN, grandmother, Helen Boren, Dover, TN, brother, Cody Porter, Dover, TN, sisters, Kimberly Eckard, Dover, TN and Kayla Hallock, Puryear, TN.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday October 14, 2019 at Anglin Funeral Home with Mark Porter and Van Herndon officiating. Burial to follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Sunday October 13th, and from 9:00 am – 11:00 am on Monday, October 14th. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
A fund has been set up at Regions Bank in Dover to help out Officer Porter’s family during this time. If anyone wishes to make a donation just go to Regions Bank and tell them it’s for the~ “Officer Chris Porter Memorial Fund.”
