Alberta Bumpus

Alberta K Bumpus, age 89 of Big Rock, TN passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Gateway Medical Center. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 17 at 1:00 PM, at Anglin Funeral Home, Dover, TN, with Rev. David Whitehead officiating. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery in Big Rock. Visitation will be on Monday, December 16, 4-8 PM and again on Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Alberta was born September 15, 1924 near Weaver’s Store in what is now Fort Campbell, daughter of the late E.B. (Genie) and Nannie Kennada. In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Haskell Bumpus and a daughter, Cynthia. Survivors include four children, David Bumpus (RoseMary) of Big Rock, Kenny Bumpus (Georgia) of Big Rock, Sheila Bumpus Wheat (Weldon) of Franklin, TN and Andy Bumpus (Betsy) of Sikeston, MO; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Alberta is also survived by Marcia (Rick) Joiner of Big Rock who is loved like a daughter. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers while great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Alberta was a longtime member of Big Rock Baptist Church, serving as Children’s Sunday School teacher, WMU Director, Church Hostess and over 62 years as Church Pianist. In addition to her influence to children through the Church, Alberta taught many little fingers to play by teaching private piano at Big Rock, Bumpus Mills, Indian Mound and North Stewart Elementary schools. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions at a local Southern Baptist Church of your choosing.
