Mr. Newell ‘Shelby’ Sykes, age 82 of Franklin, TN was called home to be with the Lord March 27, 2022 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born September 29, 1939 in Cumberland City, TN, the beloved son of the late Alton and Robbye Simpson Sykes. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from Matco Business Forms. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Franklin, TN. He was a graduate of W.T. Thomas High School in Cumberland City, TN. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and loyal friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Alton Sykes, Jr. and Jarrett Sykes.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Helen Pulley Sykes, daughter, Jennifer S. Harris (Mark) of Franklin, TN, sisters, Lauradene Shinnick (Ken) of Franklin, TN, sister-in-law, Molly Sykes of Decatur, IL, grandchildren, Helena Harris and Audrey Harris.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm at Anglin Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm at Stewart County Memorial Gardens with Dr. Craig Goff officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 2419 Bethlehem Loop, Franklin, TN 37069. Officiating the service will be Dr. Mark Lindstrom and Dr. Craig Goff. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the hour of the service at 2:00 pm.
