Obituary for Nelma Sue Crutcher

Nelma Sue Crutcher, age 71 of Dover, TN passed away January 17, 2022. She was born August 16, 1950, the daughter of Alvin Earl and Bonnie Crutcher.

Nelma was a graduate of Stewart County High School, attended Murray State University, and was a proud graduate of the University of Mississippi. She retired after working for over 42 years for Horizon Hospital in Dickson, TN, retiring as Director of Laboratory Services.

She is preceded in death by her father, Alvin Earl Crutcher. She is survived by her mother, Bonnie Crutcher, Dover, TN, sister, Jane (Harold) Link, Dover, TN, brothers, John (Terri) Crutcher, Clarksville, TN, and Terry (Lindy) Crutcher, Dover, TN. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Scott (April) Wallace, North Augusta, SC, Blake (Rachel) Wallace, Big Rock, TN, Amanda (Chet) Lee, Dover, TN, Beverly Crutcher, Katy, TX, and Kaitlyn (Jacob) Smith, Dover, TN. Also, great-nieces and nephews, Kieli, Jesse, Savannah, McKenna, Reed, Bonnie, Kristin, Allie, Gwen, and Preston.

Nelma had a passion for southern history and genealogy and was a dedicated member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy as a historical society. She has served in numerous positions including the Tennessee Division President and President General. She has worked to acquire numerous scholarships for students through the UDC. She was instrumental in obtaining a Tennessee State monument at Vicksburg MS National Battlefield. She was able to place 77 grave markers in the cemetery at Vicksburg NB.

She was a faithful lifetime member of Taylor Chapel Methodist Church. She also loved working with the Stewart County Completely One Ministries and Stewart County Back to School Bash. She also organized the Stewart County 5th grade history field day for several years. Nelma was loving and kind and loved by everyone who met her.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Taylor Chapel Methodist Church, Dover, TN. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Taylor Chapel Methodist Church with Bro. Don Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Chapel Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Wallace, Blake Wallace, Chet Lee, Brian Byrd, Chandler Byrd, Jacob Smith, Frank Crutcher, and Eddie Cottrell. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Cagle, Dr. Venk Mani, Dr. Eldred Wiser, and Terry Winchel.
