Obituary for Mel Whitehead

Mr. Mevel ‘Mel’ Lee Whitehead, Jr., age 88, of Dover, Tennessee, passed away, Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his home. He was born, November 26, 1930 in Blytheville, Arkansas, son of Mevel Lee Whitehead, Sr. and Nell Faye Lunsford Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead served in the United States Army, and was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He retired from American Airlines and together with his wife, attended the Ft. Donelson Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Parrish. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Esther Gibbs Whitehead, son, Rex Whitehead, Phoenix, Arizona, daughter, Rhonda Gentle, Lakeland, Florida, grandson, Anthony Peters, Lakeland, Florida, and sister, Carolyn Lee, Tiptonville, Tennessee.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Anglin Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Webster officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, January 28, and from 11:00 am until the time of service on Tuesday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
