Mr. Johnny Ray Sexton, age 87, of Dover, TN, passed away November 24, 2019 at Henry County Medical Center in Paris, TN. He was born September 10, 1932 to Murry and Ida Mae Byrd Sexton. J. Ray was former postmaster and mayor of Dover for many years, as well as served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Virgo ammunition ship during the Korean War. Ray was a member of Big Rock Baptist Church in Big Rock, TN and was involved in many civic organization and was instrumental at starting little league baseball in Stewart County.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Jan Butts, nine siblings and one granddaughter, Jessica Jean Wyatt of Dover, TN. Survivors include, his wife Carol Jean Weatherford Sexton, Dover, TN, sons, Gary Hughes II, Prim Springs, Chip Butts, Foley, AL, daughters, Jacqueline Hughes Wyatt, Dover, Karen List Anderson, Paris, Jan Butts, Pensacola, FL, grandchildren, Craig R. Anderson, Sydney C. Anderson, Gary W. Nelson, Derek R. Wyatt and Jason L. Martin, great grandchildren Angie M. Nelson, Lexi M. Nelson, and Noah W. Nelson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Anglin Funeral Home with Bro. William Gray and Rev. David Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at the Stewart County Memorial Garden cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and from 10:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will consist of family, with honorary pallbearers Ken Holmes, Lawrence Saunders, Jimmy Scurlock and Steve Douglas.
