Obituary for Carolyn Ruth Hughes Downs (Cottrell)
Ms. Carolyn Ruth (Cottrell) Hughes Downs, age 82 of Chicago, IL, formerly of Dover, TN, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020. She was born June 11, 1938 in Stewart County, TN, daughter of the late Wesley Gilbert and Pearl Sizemore Cottrell. Carolyn was a member of the Taylors Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Gilus Hughes and her sister, Gladys Logan.
She is survived by her children, Michael Steven Hughes, Newburgh, IN, Ricky Lynn Hughes, Grayslake, IL, Tracey Elaine Naughton, Grayslake, IL, brothers, Carl Cottrell, Carter Cottrell, Eddie Cottrell, all of Dover, sisters, Louise Spurgeon, Anne Elliott, Margie Smith, and Wanda Taylor, all of Dover, grandchildren, Josh, Brittney, and Danny Hughes, Jamison, Jacqueline, and Nicole Naughton, and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Anglin Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Taylors Chapel Cemetery, Dover, TN. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service Saturday at Anglin Funeral Home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
