Obituary for Bobby Byrd

Bobby Neal Byrd, age 79, of Dover, passed away January 6, 2019 at Diversicare of Dover after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He fought with amazing strength, perseverance and bravery during his 21 year battle.

Bobby was born May 29, 1939, in the Cub Creek community near Indian Mound, Tennessee. He was the youngest child of Thomas H. and Flossie Smith Byrd, deceased. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Fred, William Lee, Jimmy, Smith, Billy and Kelly Byrd.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rebecca (Cookie) Crutcher Byrd, son Brian (Tracy) Byrd, Buchannan, Tennessee, grandchildren, Kaitlin Byrd, Jackson, Tennessee, Brian Chandler Byrd, Buchannan, Tennessee, Emily Byrd, Knoxville, Tennessee, and sister, Lillian Rogers, Perrysburg, Ohio.

Bobby was a 1957 graduate at Stewart County High School, US Army Veteran, member of Taylor’s Chapel Church of Christ, and Moriah Grove Lodge #301. He was retired from Trane, and employed by Paris Landing State Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and Tennessee Vol fan.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Anglin Funeral Home, with Randy Stephens and Phillip Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor’s Chapel Cemetery, Dover, TN. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019, from 4-8 PM and from 10 AM until the time of service, Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Pallbearers will be Brian Chandler Byrd, David Wooten, David Wallace, Steve Smith, Wayne Dennis, Dwayne Hicks, Fritz Gray and Keith Hickman. Honorary pallbearers, Steve Hughes, Billy Webb, Mike Robinson, Neal Mathis, Kenneth Atkins, Doug Parker, Carl Cottrell, Wilton Earhart, Blake Byrd, Richard Byrd, Barry Byrd, Joel Byrd, Men of Taylor’s Chapel Church of Christ, employees of Paris Landing Golf Course and remainder of the Bandits golfing friends. Memorials may be made to Taylor’s Chapel Church of Christ or Taylor’s Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Anglin Funeral Home.
