Obituary for Agnes Juanita Ross

Agnes Juanita Ross was born on October 8, 1932 to her parents, Mance and Mabel Hale, in Daylight, Tennessee. Agnes went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2022, at age 89 ½, following months of illness.

Beloved wife of the late Jack Garland Ross for 52 ½ years who preceded her in death in 2001. Loving mother of Paula Ross-Durow (Arthur Durow), and Jacqueline (Samuel) Randolph. Cherished grandmother of 5 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Diane) Durow, Jennifer (Jesse) Crosson, Sarah (Matthew) Rideout, Hannah (Matthew) Renfrow, and Rachel (Jonathan) Mead. Dearest great-grandmother of 13 great-grandchildren: Jack Durow, Elizabeth Durow, Asher Durow, Ilana Crosson, Willow Rideout, Olive Rideout, Birch Rideout, Oaks Rideout, Juniper Rideout, Canaan Renfrow, Judah Renfrow, Abilene Renfrow and Magdalene Renfrow. Dear sister of the late Gene Hale, James Hale, Burnice Hale, Billie Hale and Bud Hale. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Until the age of 8, Agnes lived on a small farm in Middle Tennessee. In 1940, her parents moved to Detroit, Michigan to pursue employment, and Agnes lived in Michigan the rest of her life. She attended Detroit Public Schools. In 1948 she met Jack Ross, and they married on January 1, 1949. In 1951, they moved to Lincoln Park, Michigan where they made their home and raised their family. In 2013, she moved to an apartment in the Baptist Manor Retirement Community in Farmington Hills where she resided until her death.

Agnes was a stay-at-home Mom. In her early homemaking years, she participated in the Michigan State University Extension. She was actively involved in the lives of her two daughters, attending music and sporting events, and serving as a co-leader for Girl Scouts. She loved planting and caring for flowers, and was skilled at sewing by hand, often being called upon by family members to hem and mend. Agnes was an avid reader of many genres of literature and a member of Friends of the Library. She enjoyed getting together with friends in her retirement community to play cards and bingo. Spending time with her family and traveling with them were her favorite activities.

Services will be held at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home at 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with her funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Her grandson, Rev. Jeffrey Durow will officiate her service. On Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11:00 am she will be laid to rest at Taylor Chapel Cemetery in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee next to her beloved husband Jack.
